Choto Sona Mosque

There is a mosque named 'Choto Sona Mosque', an ancient sight in Firozpur area of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district. This Sona mosque, which is in the best condition among the historians of Gauda still survives in Bangladesh and remains in good condition. It is also called "Gem of Gour" or "Gem of Sultani Architectural". It is reported that the wall of the mosque and the dark one was once plated with golden color. So it was named Sona Mosque. Although this golden color does not exist at present. It is a rectangular building. The mosque is about 82 feet in length and about 52 feet in width. The width of the wall is about 6 feet. The mosque is built mainly by bricks. Around the walls of the mosque, the plaques laid on the walls of the walls are plaited with stone cover. Apart from this, the terracotta design of sapling, flowers, fruit, and Arabic inscription will also be seen in the wall of this mosque. The mosque has 12 domes. You can see 5 mihrabs on the inner western wall. The central mihrab among the mihrabs is relatively larger. The stones of mihrab are ornamented. To enter the mosque, there are 5 entrance centers on the east and 3 entrances to the north and south. There are 4 octagonal towers in the 4 corners of the mosque. There is a Zenana gallery in the mosque. Zenna Gallery is a special arrangement for women's prayers in the mosque. This mosque, built during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Hussein Shah (1494-1991), is located in Gaur. According to the inscription, Ali's son Wali Mohammad built it. Wali Mohammed is considered to be an Eunuch. So this mosque is also known as "Khwaja-ki-Masjid". A high platform built on stage in the northeast of the premises of Sona Mosque and there two carvings can be seen in stone. It is estimated that these two mausoleum mosque's builders Wali Mohammad and his father Ali.
